Hi all!
I am on holiday break from school at the moment, and am finally at a point where I'm not running around for Christmas and New Years! I'm so sorry for the late posts - life has been super busy here!
On September 30th I had the oppournity to give a presentation about myself and Iowa Rotary to my Swedish Rotary Club! I will see if I am able to attach my presentation so y'all can read through it as well, seeing as I have very little photos!
It was my first time coming to a Rotary meeting here in Sweden! It was so nice to meet everyone and see those I had met briefly over the phone in person! That night, my host parents attended, as well as my future host parents! There were four of us that presented, a good friend of mine, who is pictured above, and two other exchange students who had just spent the past year in the US on exhcange. One went to California and the other to Maryland, very different from Iowa, hahah. My friend pictured above is from the Midwest as well, and our presentations were...underwhelming, at best. They had some good information, but none that either of us really found interesting, as you probably know.
Both the other exchange student and I gave our presentations in English, but had our opening line in Swedish. As boring as I thought my presentation was, the Rotary members loved it! They liked learning about who I am and what my plans are in Sweden!
Rotary meetings here in Sweden aren't that much different from those back home. If you have never attended a meeting, you start the night with dinner and socializing, and then there is a speaker/speakers who give a presenation. It is very comparable between the US and Sweden. The one thing that is different is we have fika here after dinner, which is quite Swedish in my opinion!
Overall, the night was amazing, and it was so nice to meet everyone. I go to meetings at least once a month now, and it's been a blast thus far!
New Swedish words & phrases I've learned:
Vänster - Left (Direction)
Smör - Butter
Gurka - Cucumber
Tu son tack - A million thanks
Stilla Havet - Pacific Ocean
Träd - Tree
Honung - Honey
Länge Sedan - Long Ago
Snickare - Carpenter
Slag - Hit
Talk soon!
Älskar dig!
