How Did I Get Here?

About Me

My "Why?"

About a year ago, I was sitting in one of my history classes when I suddenly realized - there is so much more outside of the U.S. It seems like a silly realization, but coming from such a small town, in a state no one knows the name of, it was a punch in the gut. As an American, a lot of my life revolves around our country - talking about what's happening in different states, showing patriotism. My life was not wondering what is happening in other countries, learning a different language than English, and being interested in different cultures. That is, ultimately, what drove me to become a Rotary Youth Exchange student. Not only is it the chance of a lifetime, but it also gives me a lifetime of chances. I am not interested in being seen as an American that is self-centered and uneducated. That ends now.

My Vision
For This Blog

I want to share as much of my exchange on this blog as I can and help those who are either going through the same process as me, or debating. This blog won't be all positive things. I will not always be happy, and my exchange will definitely not be easy. As amazing as traveling and seeing the world can be, it also comes with added stress and hardships. After all, I'm human. This blog won't sugar coat things, it will be real and raw.

Buckle up.

We start August 1st, 2024.
